Terms of Service

Last updated: 8 March 2026

1. Agreement

By accessing or using CompanyLens (“the Service”), including the website at companylens.io, the REST API, and the MCP server, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

“We”, “us”, and “our” refer to CompanyLens. “You” refers to the individual or entity using the Service.

2. Description of Service

CompanyLens provides access to normalised company registry data from multiple jurisdictions via a REST API and MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. The data includes company information, officer records, beneficial ownership, and related public records sourced from government registries.

3. Accounts and API Keys

You must create an account to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and API keys. You must not share API keys with unauthorised parties.

You are responsible for all activity under your account and API keys. If you suspect unauthorised use, revoke the compromised API key immediately and contact us.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. Subscriptions and Billing

Paid plans are billed monthly via Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis.

  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the next billing date.
  • You can cancel at any time through the billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods.
  • We may change pricing with 30 days' written notice. Existing subscriptions are honoured until the end of the current billing period.

5. Usage Limits and Rate Limiting

Each subscription tier includes a query limit. Requests exceeding your tier's limit will receive a 429 (Too Many Requests) response.

We may impose additional rate limits to protect the service from abuse. Sustained high-volume usage that degrades service for other users may result in temporary throttling.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service.
  • Scrape, bulk-download, or systematically cache the entire dataset for redistribution as a competing service.
  • Use the data for unsolicited marketing, spam, or harassment of individuals named in company records.
  • Circumvent rate limits, authentication, or access controls.
  • Share, resell, or sublicence API keys to third parties.
  • Use automated tools to create multiple accounts to evade usage limits.

7. Data Sources and Attribution

CompanyLens aggregates data from public government company registries. We are required to attribute these data sources under their respective licences:

United Kingdom — Companies House

Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Source: Companies House, Crown Copyright.

Ireland — Companies Registration Office

Norway — Brønnøysund Register Centre

Belgium — KBO/BCE

Latvia — Register of Enterprises

When you redistribute data obtained through CompanyLens, you must comply with the applicable licence terms for each jurisdiction.

8. Data Accuracy

CompanyLens provides data “as is” from public government sources. While we make reasonable efforts to keep data current and accurate, we do not guarantee:

  • Completeness or accuracy of any record.
  • That data reflects real-time changes at the source registry.
  • Fitness for any specific purpose, including but not limited to legal compliance, KYC/AML checks, or investment decisions.

You should verify critical information directly with the relevant government registry.

9. Intellectual Property

The CompanyLens website, API, documentation, branding, and software are owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our software or branding without permission.

Company registry data accessed through the API is subject to the licences described in Section 7. We do not claim ownership of government-sourced data.

10. Service Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may perform scheduled maintenance with reasonable advance notice. We are not liable for downtime caused by:

  • Planned maintenance
  • Third-party service outages (hosting, payment, auth providers)
  • Force majeure events
  • Government registry downtime or data feed interruptions

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CompanyLens shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Service.

Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold CompanyLens harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, violation of these terms, or infringement of any third party's rights.

13. Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. Upon termination:

  • All API keys are immediately revoked.
  • Unused subscription time is not refunded unless required by law.
  • We will delete your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
